Kathy and Steve Smith
My husband Steve and I own the store and have had a wonderful time meeting new people and becoming a greater part of the horse community in Maine! I have owned horses since I was 10 and currently ride Finnegan, my 17 hand "baby" who was born on our farm 12 years ago. We enjoy dressage and hacking in the fields and look forward to more trail riding and expanding our adventures. Steve enjoys horses and raised beef cattle for many years. He is our CFO who keeps the business side of the store in order and enjoys helping customers on the weekends.

My love of horses started with a fat Appaloosa at the age of 7 and it has grown with each horse I ride. I attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst for Equine Industries. Throughout college I had the opportunity to ride on our dressage team and teach their community riding program. When I'm not at the store, I spend my days at our farm working with students and horses of all ages. I have two great mares who keep me on my toes that I enjoy riding.

Horses and riding have been a "life style" for me from a very early age! My family owned and operated a boarding stable where there was never a lack of horses to ride or care for. Aside from boarding my parents bred and raced Standardbreds. Pony Club and Eventing kept me busy through my teen years. Later teaching and building a small boarding barn of my own that I currently operate with my extremely supportive husband and our son. Residing there with us, my two current horses Mr. Moe and Rocky, both lovely grey Thoroughbreds and one grey barn cat!
Meet the owners and staff at Maine Horse and Rider!

I am Steve and Kathy's oldest daughter. I enjoy life in Troy with my wonderful boyfriend, our three dogs, two cats, blue and gold macaw, several beef cows, and of course my "perfect" quarter horse filly, Cricket, who I plan to trail ride in the future.
